The Twins
MARCH 2017
Amie and Jenni are the terrible twins, originally from Darwin, who live in work in Brisbane now. Amie had the misfortune to be Steve’s admin at QFRS and along with Sondra were very good at looking after him. Mind you, our grocery bill felt it – ‘the girls and I like these muesli bars/biscuits/snacks’. The weather wasn’t looking the greatest with the likelihood of a low perhaps brewing into a cyclone, so we headed out on the boat directly from the airport being alert but not alarmed yet. Managed Butterfly Bay where Amie tried out our new inflatable SUP and both kayaking and snorkelling. Down to Whitehaven where we were the only ones on the beach late in afternoon and drizzle, and then around to Hamilton on Friday. We then changed from alert to alarmed as it became apparent that we were going to be visited by Cyclone Debbie so after enjoying the usual pool, showers and dinner that night, we headed back to Airlie early the next morning. The girls flights, due out on Tuesday, had now been cancelled. New flights booked for Mackay on Monday so a chance to sightsee Airlie, along with cyclone preparations for both boat and house. A quick drive to Mackay only to have those flights cancelled but luckily Qantas gave them a car to drive to Rockhampton and then onto a flight out of there back to Brisbane. I think they made it home before we got back to Airlie.
