Ilot Maître and Amedee Island – Priscalina

Ilot Maître and Amedee Island

After almost two weeks in Port Moselle marina it was time to head off again. The marina stop over was a necessity so that Steve could head to warm (not) and windy Warragul an hour an half out of Tullamarine so that he could attend the Australasian Rescue Challenge and also so that Jennie could socialise (drinks, dinners, coffees, shopping) at the marina and around Nouméa with other rally participants. Who got the better deal?
First stop after heading out on Thursday was straight over to Maître, an hours gentle cruise where we picked up a mooring and stayed two nights. Friday we unleashed the kayaks and paddled around the island. We had been there before, as it was our arrival point from Australia, but never exercised the kayaks, simply going from Priscalina to the resort and back. This time it was worth it; crystal clear water, no ripples on the water and the aquatic life was out and about. We snuck up on turtles resting, fish frolicking (if they do that) and sea snakes slithering.
The next day it was back to the Port, anchoring outside ready for the following day and our full day tour out to Amedee Lighthouse. Kat was celebrating her birthday belated after being in hospital for a week as well as John and Kat belatedly celebrating their wedding anniversary. On the trip down to Amadee we were joined by John and Kat (Katfish), Mike and Anita (Curried Oates) and Greg and Deb (Parhelion). What a day! Clinked the 217 steps to the top of the lighthouse, lazed on the beach, over the reefs in a glass bottom boat, displays of coconut tree climbing, Tahitian dancing and a fantastic lunch. End of day saw us back on board ready to head off to the Loyalty’s.
