Ilot Kouare
Two nights at Mato and then off to Ilot Ua. On the way, a quick look at the Rocket Guide had us head to the neighbouring Ilot beside Ua called Uatio for a more comfortable anchorage. The weather gods had other plans though and with the winds higher than expected and from the South West making the anchorage open to swell and roll, we decided to head to Kouare – another island we had heard so much about.
We arrived at Kouare mid afternoon and decided to venture over to circumnavigate the island. Sounds impressive but all the islets here are not that big. Like all the islands here, they are mostly surrounded by fringing reefs so low at mid tide, it can be interesting to say the least. A quick walk around and then back to Priscalina just in time to see a few whales in the distance. They performed well but no where near as good as they did the next day when they were closer, the seas flatter and the skies sunnier. They put on a great show entertaining us for hours.
