Shag Islet Rendezvous

For those that don’t know about this …………. A club that raises money for Prostate Cancer. All members are Vice Commodores of the Shag Islet Cruising Yacht Club and all members have the same membership number of 010. Steve is Vice Commodore of Bill Bob Bay and I am Vice Commodore of Queen Margrethe Bay!
We had heard about this event through the local media the previous year but decided to join after meeting one of their members at Airlie. We decided that meeting like minded boating people would be great and to keep and open mind about some comments from locals ‘just like schoolies but for oldies’. We like a drink or two but not sure we are up with some of these.
We got to Gloucester on the Wednesday, to find about 100 boats already in the bay, so dropped anchor where it seemed we were closer to Bowen than Gloucester! I guess it’s all about perspective, as the weekend drew closer more boats arrived for around 250 in total. So we weren’t on the edge anymore, more like in the middle now.
It was a great weekend, met and chatted to lots of yachties about their boats and lives. Sat at a table with a couple David And Sue, who it quickly was ascertained, had a Lavezzi as well!!! Not a lot in Australia, and being a couple of years younger and some modifications done, we went across to check it out. Shared a table at the big dinner/party on final night with lots of laughs.
